Windows
Install on Windows 10 or 11 and share the machine.
Windows does both jobs. You can connect from it, and you can share it.
What you need
- Windows 10 or 11, 64-bit.
- No admin rights. It installs into your own user folder.
- To share it: any recent graphics card. It has a video encoder built in.
Install it
Download
Go to realframe.io/download on that PC.
Get past the blue warning
The build is not signed yet, so Windows may warn you. Click More info, then Run anyway.
If you got a .zip, right-click it, choose Properties, tick Unblock, then
unzip.
Run the installer
Keep both parts ticked. RealFrame connects out. RealFrame Host shares this PC, and stays off until you start it.
Open RealFrame from the Start menu and sign in.
Open RealFrame Host and press start. Two things happen:
- The PC shows up in Devices.
- It is set to come back after a restart, so you do not lose it.
Stop any time from the same window.
Locked PC with no monitor shows black
Windows blanks the screen of a locked PC with no monitor plugged in. Sign in once at the machine, or plug in a cheap HDMI dummy plug. More: headless computers.
Keep it reachable
- Settings ▸ System ▸ Power: set sleep to Never.
- Leave it plugged in. Laptops sleep on battery anyway.
- Restarts are fine. Sharing comes back with the PC.
You cannot wake a sleeping PC by connecting to it.
Where it goes
Everything lands in %LocalAppData%\Programs\RealFrame\. Uninstall from
Settings ▸ Apps like any other program.
