It keeps dropping
What the app does by itself, and when the pattern means something.
What happens by itself
The dot goes amber and says Reconnecting while the app rebuilds the link. Everything open on the far computer stays open. When it comes back you get a full fresh frame, so the picture snaps back to correct rather than fading in from smears.
Attempts back off gradually, so a network that is down for a minute does not turn into a thousand connection attempts.
What that means for you
| Survives a reconnect | |
|---|---|
| Apps open on the far computer | Yes |
| Your session window, display mode, toolbar spot | Yes |
| Clipboard on both sides | Yes |
| The session itself, if the far computer sleeps | No |
Read the pattern
Amber for more than a minute or two. Check the far computer is still online in Devices. If it went offline there, the problem is at that end.
Red, disconnected. Reconnect from the app.
Dropping every few minutes. That is a busy or weak link, not a fault in the session:
- Set the far computer's quality to Wi-Fi safe. It caps the rate and spreads packets out so a big frame cannot flood a weak radio.
- Check LOSS in the toolbar. Over 2% and the link is the problem. See the numbers.
- Wired network at the far end if you can. It removes the whole class of Wi-Fi problems.
Sleep and closed lids
Closing the laptop you are sitting at pauses the session. Opening it reconnects.
Letting the far computer sleep ends the session and drops it offline, because a sleeping computer cannot send a screen. Set it to never sleep.
